Commercially made bath scrubs are often quite expensive. However, the majority of scrubs contain the same ingredients, such as salt or sugar, oil and fragrance, some of which you may already have in your cupboard. Making your own homemade scrubs is both simple and inexpensive. Here are some recipes to try.

Simple Salt Scrub

  • 1 cup sea salt
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil

Mix oil and salt. Add fragrance if desired and store in a container with a tightly fitting lid.

Cold Cream Salt Scrub

  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup table salt
  • 1 cup inexpensive cold cream

Mix all the ingredients until you have a smooth paste. Add fragrance if desired and store in a container with a tightly fitting lid.

Epsom Salts Bath Scrub

Epsom salts gently exfoliates skin and also provides magnesium to ease stress, relax muscles and relieve soreness.

  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • 2-3 drops of jojoba, almond or olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda (optional)

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Add fragrance if desired and store in a container with a tightly fitting lid.

Simple Sugar Scrub

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Enough cold-pressed oil (olive, wheat germ, peanut, corn, sunflower or grapeseed) to dampen the mixture

Mix oil and salt. Add fragrance if desired and store in a container with a tightly fitting lid.
